About

Mediation is a popular alternative to taking cases to court. Rather than bringing your issues to a judge to have them rule on what should happen, mediation allows the parties to work out a solution between themselves. The solution is then sent to a judge to sign off on the solution.

Attorneys are not necessary for mediation. HOWEVER, if you have legal questions then an attorney should be contacted. Mediation is not legal advice, and a mediator will not tell you what to do. A mediator can only help you and the other party come to a resolution together.

Mediation is also not counseling. If you need to process anger or resentment towards another party then you should seek counseling or psychotherapy.

Heather Champion is both a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and a Supreme Court Certified Family Court Mediator in the state of Florida. This means she can provide both counseling and mediation services, but not at the same time. If you are seeking family or couples counseling with Heather and determine that your marriage cannot be saved and a divorce is necessary, then Heather can switch to just being a mediator. However, once the shift is made, counseling and psychotherapy must cease.
